The news of Dave Brockie’s death in March shook the music and film community to it’s core. Brockie, best known to GWAR fans as Oderus Urungus, had been rocking audiences as the lead singer of the intergalactic thrash metal band for over 30 years. His on-stage theatrics made him a fan-favorite and caught the eye of many in Hollywood, who would often put his humanoid barbarian character in films. As Oderus, Brockie appeared in such films as Empire Records, I Spill Your Guts and Zoolander. However, it was his role on the television series Holliston that solidified him in the hearts of Rock & Shock guests. As part of the now-legendary 2012 panel, Brockie brought unparallelled humor and showmanship to the stage and his indelible presence will forever linger in the hearts of those who were lucky enough to witness him live. It is with full hearts and the ultimate respect that Rock & Shock announces that GWAR, along with special guests, will be headlining the second night of the convention and paying tribute to their fallen comrade and our fallen friend.
Joining GWAR on Saturday night will be Life of Agony. The Brooklyn, NY-based alt-metal band has returned to the stage with their original “River Runs Red” lineup for the first time since 2005. The band’s first show back is set to take place in New Jersey on September 13 and sold out in record time. The fast sell-out left fans begging for more and luckily, Rock & Shock will give them just that. After forming in 1989, Life of Agony took on the underground scene with their intense and haunting melodies and emotional lyrics, developing a passionate and dedicated fan base in the process. The band toured unrelentingly for years in support of their next three albums 1993′s “River Runs Red,” 1995′s “Ugly and 1997′s” Soul Searching Sun.” Before long they were touring alongside the likes of Ozzy Osbourne, Korn and System of a Down and playing to massive audiences who were captivated by their unique style and indelible talent. With their original lineup intact, Life of Agony is set to once again enthrall fans both old and new with their intense live performance and powerful message.
Saturday night’s main stage lineup will be rounded out by Unearth, Dying Fetus, Darkest Hour, Decapitated, Carnifex and one local act who will be selected by Break Thru Music’s Battle for Rock & Shock which is slated to take place at the Worcester Palladium this fall.
