With the likes of Leatherface, Michael Myers, Jason Voorhees, Pinhead, Freddy Kreuger, Chucky and more, the 70s and 80s proved to be fertile ground for the creation of not only classic horror film franchises but also iconic characters. The 90s and early 2000s, though, were quite the opposite, giving us Ghostface and Victor Crowley but few others worthy of wielding the weight of a multi-sequel property. However, from these dark days a champion would emerge and give to the world of horror its most successful series of the new millennium, Saw, and from that series we would be introduced to a character that would challenge our ideas of morality and remind us of the importance of appreciating life, John Kramer, aka Jigsaw. His traps proved that there were still fresh ways to be found for making an audience squirm in their seats, and his eloquence and intelligence separated him from the majority of his hall of fame brethren. Indeed, it would take a special actor to be able to breathe believability into the body of Jigsaw, to be powerful yet flawed and keep the audience thinking while also on the edge of their seat. That actor, my friends, was found in Mr. Tobin Bell. Please help us welcome him to Rock and Shock in only one month, October 16-18.
